কুমিল্লার চৌদ্দগ্রামে লোকালয়ে চলে আসা একটি বিপন্ন প্রজাতির লজ্জাবতী বানর উদ্ধার করা হয়েছে। প্রাণীটির শরীরে আঘাতের চিহ্ন থাকায় বর্তমানে চিকিৎসা দেওয়া হচ্ছে। সুস্থ হলে এটিকে গাজীপুর সাফারি পার্কে অবমুক্ত করা হবে বলে জানিয়েছে বন বিভাগ।

গতকাল মঙ্গলবার রাত সাড়ে ১০টার দিকে চৌদ্দগ্রাম পৌরসভার ৭ নম্বর ওয়ার্ডের ভারতীয় সীমান্তঘেঁষা বৈদ্দেরখিল গ্রামে ঘটনাটি ঘটে। স্থানীয় বাসিন্দারা জানান, ওই গ্রামের আবদুল মমিনের বাড়িতে হঠাৎ প্রাণীটি ঢুকে পড়ে। অচেনা প্রাণী দেখে বাড়ির লোকজন আতঙ্কিত হয়ে পড়েন। পরে আশপাশের লোকজন এসে সেটিকে আটক করে খাঁচাবন্দী করেন। আজ বুধবার সকালে স্থানীয় লোকজন প্রাণীটিকে উপজেলা নির্বাহী কর্মকর্তা (ইউএনও) শাহাদাৎ হোসেনের কাছে হস্তান্তর করেন। পরে বন বিভাগ ও প্রাণিসম্পদ বিভাগের কর্মকর্তারা সেটিকে নিজেদের হেফাজতে নেন।
স্থানীয় বাসিন্দা আবদুল মমিন বলেন, ‘গতকাল রাত ১০টার দিকে হঠাৎ প্রাণীটি বাড়ির ভেতরে চলে আসে। প্রথমে আমরা ভয় পেয়ে যাই। পরে এলাকার লোকজন এসে এটিকে ধরে খাঁচায় রাখে। পরে জানতে পারি এটি লজ্জাবতী বানর, যা সাধারণত মানুষের কোনো ক্ষতি করে না। আমরা বানরটিকে রাতে খাবার দিয়েছি। সকালে এলাকার লোকজনসহ এটিকে উপজেলা প্রশাসনের কাছে হস্তান্তর করা হয়েছে।’
এসব তথ্য নিশ্চিত করে উপজেলা প্রাণিসম্পদ কর্মকর্তা আবদুল্লাহ আল মামুন (সাগর) জানান, প্রাণীটি একটি বিপন্ন প্রজাতির লজ্জাবতী বানর। উদ্ধার করার সময় এর শরীরে জখমের চিহ্ন পাওয়া গেছে। সে কারণে চিকিৎসা ও প্রয়োজনীয় পরিচর্যার ব্যবস্থা করা হয়েছে। তিনি বলেন, লজ্জাবতী বানর আকারে ছোট ও স্বভাবগতভাবে মন্থরগতির প্রাণী। তবে পরিবেশের ভারসাম্য রক্ষায় এদের গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা রয়েছে। ফুলের পরাগায়ন, বীজ বিস্তার এবং বিভিন্ন ক্ষতিকর পোকামাকড় খাওয়ার মাধ্যমে তারা বনজ প্রতিবেশব্যবস্থাকে সহায়তা করে।
প্রাণিসম্পদ কর্মকর্তা আরও বলেন, সাম্প্রতিক সময়ে চিরসবুজ প্রাকৃতিক বনের পরিবর্তে সেগুনসহ বিদেশি প্রজাতির গাছের বাগান বাড়তে থাকায় লজ্জাবতী বানরের স্বাভাবিক আবাসস্থল সংকুচিত হচ্ছে। এসব বাগানে তারা প্রয়োজনীয় খাদ্য, বিশেষ করে গাছের আঠা ও রস পর্যাপ্ত পরিমাণে পায় না। ফলে খাদ্যের সন্ধানে অনেক সময় তারা লোকালয়ে চলে আসে। এই বানরের ক্ষেত্রেও এমন ঘটনা ঘটেছে বলে মনে হচ্ছে।
উপজেলা বন কর্মকর্তা মো. শাহিন আলম বলেন, প্রাণীটির চিকিৎসা ও পর্যবেক্ষণ চলছে। সম্পূর্ণ সুস্থ হয়ে উঠলে বন বিভাগের তত্ত্বাবধানে এটিকে গাজীপুর সাফারি পার্কে অবমুক্ত করা হতে পারে। লজ্জাবতী বানর বাংলাদেশের বন্য প্রাণী সংরক্ষণ আইনের আওতায় সুরক্ষিত একটি প্রাণী।
চৌদ্দগ্রাম উপজেলা নির্বাহী কর্মকর্তা শাহাদাৎ হোসেন বলেন, স্থানীয় লোকজন প্রাণীটিকে আটক করে প্রশাসনের কাছে হস্তান্তর করেন। বর্তমানে এটি বন বিভাগের হেফাজতে রয়েছে। প্রয়োজনীয় চিকিৎসা শেষে পরবর্তী ব্যবস্থা নেওয়া হবে।

A motorcyclist faces impaired driving charges after allegedly racing with a Lamborghini on a rural road in Brantford – an incident that ended with the high-end sports car soaring through the air and crashing onto a busy highway.

Brant County Ontario Provincial Police say the crash occurred on Hwy. 403 just east of Rest Acres Rd. Around 11:30 a.m. on Sunday.
“Police responded to a report of a vehicle that had gone airborne and landed in the median ditch,” the OPP said in a statement posted Tuesday on X. “Upon arrival, officers located a black Lamborghini resting in the centre ditch, with debris scattered across the westbound lanes.”

OPP allege “preliminary information” indicates a motorcycle and the Lamborghini were racing on Pottruff Rd., which ends in a cul-de-sac just south of Hwy. 403.
“The motorcycle stopped, and the driver fled the scene,” OPP alleged. “The Lamborghini continued onto the highway, became airborne, cleared both westbound lanes, and came to rest in the median.”
Video posted on X by @OPP_WR shows the demolished Lamborghini in the grassy median that separates the eastbound and westbound lanes of Hwy. 403.
The Lamborghini driver reportedly suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital. That driver has not been charged at this point.
In a separate statement posted Tuesday on X, OPP said investigators subsequently arrested the suspected motorcyclist – a 26-year-old “individual” from Paris, Ont.

Police did not release the motorcyclist’s name or gender.
That driver is charged with operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration over 80, operation while Impaired – alcohol and drugs, failure to attend for court, as per undertaking.
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court in Brantford on July 10.
