The Toronto Blue Jays' starting rotation has been one of the unhealthiest this season.
The latest Blue Jays starter to wind up on the injured list was right-hander Dylan Cease (mild left hamstring strain), who is set to make a rehab start with Triple-A Buffalo on June 4. Cease will join his rotation mate and future Hall of Famer Max Scherzer, who is slated to make his second rehab start with Buffalo on June 5.
Even though Scherzer and Cease are getting healthier, the Blue Jays lack depth to provide insurance in case they or another starter hit the injured list. Aware of this pitfall, the Blue Jays called up the Minnesota Twins to provide some help.

According to a team announcement by the Twins, right-hander Simeon Woods Richardson had been traded to the Blue Jays in exchange for cash considerations. A former second-round pick in the 2018 MLB Draft by the New York Mets, Woods Richardson is no stranger to the Blue Jays, as the Mets traded him and current Chicago White Sox Anthony Kay to the Blue Jays in July 2019 for Marcus Stroman and cash.

The Blue Jays would trade Woods Richardson and Austin Martin to the Twins for José Berríos -- Berrios is currently on the injured list with a right elbow stress fracture and will not be available until next year.

Woods Richardson has been a disaster for the Twins this season, with a 7.74 ERA (12 games, 10 starts), having given up nine home runs and walked 25 in 47.2 innings. According to manager John Schneider, there is no plan for Woods Richardson, but he's excited to get to work with him.
“We’re still working through [the pitching plan],” Schneider said to MLB.com's Rick Farlow. “We have a lot of moving parts right now, obviously. I don’t think [Woods Richardson] will be part of tomorrow. We’re still kind of sorting out his travel so I think that would be a tough ask. But I’m excited to have him back in the organization."
