'To the place I belong': West Virginia football recruit's commitment video goes viral

· Yahoo Sports

Rye Cove (VA) three-star offensive lineman Ethan Lawson may have just committed to West Virginia but his commitment video alone may be enough to make him a household name for Mountaineer fans.

Lawson announced his commitment to West Virginia on choosing the Mountaineers over Virginia Tech. However, instead of posting a normal graphic like most players do nowadays, Lawson took it a step further.

In front of a burning couch and with John Denver's hit "Take Me Home, Country Roads" playing in the background, Lawson stood in front of the burning couch, ripped off his shirt and dawned a Mountaineers shirt proclaiming his commitment to the program.

The video has since garnered over 570,000 views on X and thousands of likes on Instagram.

247Sports ranks the 6-6, 310-pounder out of Duffield as the No. 40 interior offensive lineman in the 2027 class and the No. 13 player out of West Virginia. His commitment comes just a few days after an official to Morgantown.

Lawson is West Virginia's 14th commitment in a class that 247Sports ranks as the 27th best so far in the cycle.

'Take Me Home, Country Roads' role in West Virginia sports

Released on April 12, 1971, John Denver's hit song has since become a staple in West Virginia athletics. Regardless of the sport, whenever the Mountaineers win, it is played with the players and crowd coming together to sing it.

Most recently, it was brought onto the national stage during the college baseball Morgantown Regional.

West Virginia beat Kentucky on walk-offs on back-to-back nights to keep its season alive. Following the 6-5 win on June 1, ESPN's broadcast of the game let the scene play out as the song was played with the fans and players singing together to celebrate the win.
